program’s first module

April 25, 2009

We’ve almost finished the first module for the project. The first module is to compute the ROI using the time weighted return formula, dollar weighted formula and the modified dietz formula for the fund level and the portfolio level. As of now, the program can compute the ROI using the time weighted return formula and modified dietz for both the levels. We would have finished dollar weighted last friday if it weren’t for jexcelapi. It can’t parse the XIRR formula. I searched about it on the net and apparently, it doesn’t support XIRR. We can’t move on to the second module if we can’t compute the dollar weighted, or so my supervisor says.

I talked to the accounting department about how they compute the ROI. The way they compute it is different from the way the division I’m assigned to. We’ve agreed that I’d give them a sample of the output of the program and compare it to their results to know if they can also use the program to lighten up their load.

I’ve also added some checking on the program and it now outputs the ROI according to the settings chosen by the user.

Today, we’ve discussed six sigma. It’s something of a measurement for a proces.

I’ll post screenshots of the program soon. I don’t have my laptop right now.
